First United Methodist Church of Conway, South Carolina
Thursday, May 23, 2013
Our Sunday Morning Worship Service is a traditional United Methodist service that takes place at 11:00 a.m.in the Sanctuary. This service incorporates liturgy from the United Methodist Hymnal and the Book of Worship. We also have an informal evening service (6:00 p.m.) in the old sanctuary, the Hut, on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Main Street.
Children in Worship
We welcome all children into the life of our church. We believe that they are a very important part of our church family and we value them for their unique contributions. We are delighted to have children worship with us and we strive to find appropriate and meaningful ways for children to participate in worship.
Our worship service includes a Children’s Message where children are invited to sit with the pastor and hear a special message. After the children’s message, Children aged three years - First Grade may attend Children’s Church (room 211) during the remainder of the service.
Corps of Acolytes
Youth of the church serve as acolytes and crucifers in worship carrying the cross and light into the sanctuary as we begin our worship and out to the world as we leave worship. The next training session will be in the fall with an acolyte and crucifer installation service to follow.
Music in Worship
Music in worship at FUMC is led by the Chancel Choir accompanied by our 3 manual, 33 rank Schantz Pipe Organ. In addition, many talented people within the church and community offer their talents in worship. FUMC also incorporates musicians from the Long Bay Symphony in our worship for festival occasions in the life of our church. Children and Youth as well as adults are encouraged to offer their talents in all areas of visual and performing arts. Our traditional worship incorporates hymns of the faith, familiar and unfamiliar, and choral music that incorporates many genres of sacred classical style.
